Time To Learn Committee

Fight Back Against High Stakes Testing

SPFT’s Time to Learn Committee is a group of educators who are fighting to reduce the amount of unnecessary testing in our schools in order to create more time for real learn. They are collaborating with other teachers and parents from around the country to push back against high stakes standardized testing in the months leading up to MCAs.

Want to get involved?

Step 1: Take our short survey about standardized testing.

Step 2: Join us at a couple events in January to learn more about standardized testing.

On Tuesday January 10 at 6:00pm, our monthly Book Group at the East Side Freedom Library will be reading selections from More Than a Score, a collection of essays, poems, speeches, and interviews from people fighting against the corporate, big-money reformers in education edited by Jesse Hagopian. You can find more information and links to the essays we are reading here.

On January 12, join us for a showing of Standardized, which examines the consequences of high stakes testing and the money involved in it. The film will be also be shown at the East Side Freedom Library and will begin at 6:00pm.

Step 3: Help us find students who want to get involved.

The testing committee is also looking for student testimony about standardized testing. If you have a student who wants to talk about their experiences with high-stakes standardized testing, please contact Nick Faber (nick@spft.org) and send in this video release form.
